The Mohawks (4-0-0-2) dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Capitals last Friday at the North Iowa Ice Arena, but rebounded with 7-0 and 3-1 road victories over the Omaha Energy on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
“We just have to keep working hard, putting the puck in the net,” Mohawk Hockey Club coach Mark Hicks said. “We’ve had a great week of practice preparing and know it will take a full effort against the Capitals.”
Following tonight’s contest, the Mohawks play the Capitals again on Saturday, at Cedar Rapids on Sunday, at Ames on Wednesday before returning home next Saturday against Lincoln.
Andrew Burgmeier leads the Mohawks with six goals and nine points while Will Martin and Jake Taylor each have recorded seven points.
In net, Drake Lundeen has three victories and a 0.99 goals against average while Max Lassise has the other victory.
Outlaws face Bismark
Bobcats tonight
MASON CITY — The North Iowa Outlaws have fallen to fourth place in the NAHL’s Central Division after last weekend’s sweep at the hands of the Springfield Jr. Blues.
Tonight at 7:30, the Outlaws (9-7-2) look to get back on track against Bismarck (11-8-1), a team they had won 20 straight games against dating back to February 2006 before a 3-0 loss at the North Iowa Ice Arena on Oct. 24.
However, the Outlaws’ last victory was against the Bobcats on Nov. 1, followed by a three-game losing streak.
Since a power play goal against the Bobcats in that victory, the Outlaws’ power play has been on a freefall, failing to score on its last 15 chances, and 23 of their last 24 tries.
Five Outlaws have reached the double digit mark in points, with Travis Peckskamp leading the way with 17 points. Brandon Brodhag, who has 14 points, leads North Iowa with 10 goals.
Thomas Callaghan has appeared in 15 of the Outlaws’ 18 games in goal, posting a 8-5-2 record with a .910 save percentage.
