The NIACC Board of Directors approved Derr’s contract Thursday.
She will receive a base salary of $155,000 plus a $10,000 annual car allowance and a $10,000 annual annuity.
Derr, currently vice president for learner services at Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Wis., was announced last week as the board’s top choice to succeed Michael Morrison, who is retiring.
Derr’s first day on the job will be July 7.
In other business, the board approved employee agreements for the 2008-09 school year.
The agreements include an average salary increase of 4 percent for faculty and professional staff.
Hourly employees will receive a 5.72 percent increase.
Shelly Schmit, director of human resources at NIACC, said the college is to receive supplemental funding from the state for faculty salaries, “but we don’t know what our share of the pie is yet.”
When the exact amount is known, the faculty will receive an additional salary increase on top of the 4 percent raise it is currently getting, she said.
Tuition, fees will rise 3.7% in 2008-09
MASON CITY — The North Iowa Area Community College Board of Directors Thursday approved a 3.7 percent tuition and fee increase for 2008-09.
NIACC’s resident credit hour tuition rate will increase to $103.55. The tuition rate for out-of-state students will increase to $155.33 per credit hour.
The material and lab fee will increase 35 cents to $9.70 per credit hour. The student activity fee will increase by 8 cents to $3 per credit hour.
This means in-state students taking 12 credit hours, the minimum to be considered full-time, will pay $1,395 per semester. Out-of-state students taking 12 credit hours will pay $2,016.
The increase should keep NIACC in the middle range of tuition charged by other Iowa community colleges, according to Karen Pierson, vice president for student services.
The board also approved a 6 percent increase in dorm rates.
The rate will increase to $2,268 per semester for a double room in the dorm. Apartment rates will increase to $2,618 per semester. The rates, which are the same for both in-state and out-of-state students, include 19 meals per week.
Pierson said these rates are competitive with other community colleges and reflect cost increases for services and board.
